Our Legacy

At Kodiak Cookie Monster Kennels, we believe that true guardians are born from love, patience, and purpose. Our story began more than two decades ago, when we first started breeding English Mastiffs in 2001. For years, we raised gentle giants who were shipped to families all across the United States. Each one was special — and when they passed away of old age in 2011, we chose to step away from breeding for more than ten years. You can never replace a dog who becomes part of your heart.

In 2022, we found a breed that reignited that same devotion — the Caucasian Ovcharka, also known as the Caucasian Shepherd Dog. This magnificent guardian breed is intelligent, loyal, and deeply protective — everything we had been searching for. Our foundation male, Kodiak Cookie Monster, was imported from Croatia and is proudly registered with FCI, CKC, and UKC. His strength and temperament became the cornerstone of our kennel.

Our Dogs

Our girls — Halo, Navy, and Shelby Cookie Monster — are the heart of our breeding program. We waited until they were fully mature before ever breeding them.
	•	Halo was our first to have a litter, at the age of three.
	•	Navy and Shelby will have their first litters this winter at four years old.

We waited years because we are not a puppy mill. We believe in doing things the right way — ensuring every mother is strong, healthy, and emotionally ready before bringing new life into the world.

Our dogs live with us on our family farm in Akeley, Minnesota, surrounded by trees, fresh air, and open space. They’re raised with kindness, respect, and structure. They roam freely, help guard our property, and coexist peacefully with our chickens, pigs, and outdoor cats.

We also kept several special puppies from Halo’s first litter — Blue, Storm, and Grizzly Cookie Monster — each for their unique connection to us. And Tank Cookie Monster, a rescue we brought home, now lives safely with our family and is thriving.

At Kodiak Cookie Monster Kennels, we breed for health, temperament, and purpose — never quantity.
	•	We do not sell to puppy mills or unverified buyers.
	•	We carefully screen every home to ensure our puppies go only to families who will love and protect them.
	•	We stay in touch with every owner, providing support, updates, and encouragement long after the puppies go home.

Our dogs are family before they are ever breeders. They live indoors and outdoors as part of our daily life — not in kennels, not in cages. We handle every puppy from birth, ensuring they grow up confident, social, and ready to adapt to new environments.

Why We Chose the Caucasian Ovcharka

Living deep in the woods, nearly half a mile from the main road, we needed dogs that could truly guard our home and family. Years ago, there were nights when unknown vehicles came up our long driveway and strangers pounded on our door while my husband was away working nights. I was terrified.

That experience taught us the true value of a guardian. The Caucasian Ovcharka provides that sense of safety — but with a heart full of love. They are intelligent enough to know the difference between a friend and a threat. They protect instinctively, yet they are affectionate, loyal, and gentle with family.

Kodiak often takes my hand softly in his mouth and walks me to the building. He doesn’t bite — he guides. That’s the kind of respect and connection we build with our dogs, and that’s the bond we want our puppy families to experience too.
